May 16, 2011
Baltimore, MD: Members of “Atapco Strike Force” participated in the “Bowl for Kids’ Sake” event this past Friday at AMF Pikesville Lanes to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Maryland.
The team, named “Atapco Strike Force”, led by team captain Stephen Bass, consisted of Robert Handy, Michael Carter, Corrie Wade, Pat Kilroy, Faye Cook, Dave Polonsky, Corrie Wade and Boston Chinsenga. The event brought out teams from local business, who raised money to compete in the event, with trophies, small prizes and bragging rights going to the winners. The money raised at Bowl for Kids’ Sake is used to help fund their local mentoring program, the Maryland Mentoring Partnership, which matches area children with supportive mentors in an effort to help the kids reach their full potential. While Atapco Strike Force didn’t take home a trophy this year, they did manage to raise $1,190- which is more than enough to provide a child in Baltimore with a years’ worth of one-on-one mentoring. Overall, the Bowl for Kids’ Sake event raised over $56,000 for Big Brothers Big Sisters, which will undoubtedly go a long way in helping Baltimore area children facing adversity to realize their potential, and build their futures.
For more than 100 years, Big Brothers Big Sisters has operated under the belief that inherent in every child is the ability to succeed and thrive in life. As the nation’s largest donor and volunteer supported mentoring network, Big Brothers Big Sisters’ mission is to provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the better, forever. Most children served by Big Brothers Big Sisters are in single-parent and low-income families or households where a parent is incarcerated.
