Beginning in 2005 with the first of several land acquisitions, Atapco assembled what would become the East Gate Planning District in South Riding, Virginia. Atapco made significant investments in roads and infrastructure, including a major extension of Tall Cedars Parkway, which links U.S. Route 50, through the East Gate District, to the South Riding and Stone Ridge communities. East Gate Marketplace, a Harris Teeter anchored community shopping center, and the Shoppes at East Gate, which were self-developed by Atapco, are the centerpieces of the community. East Gate Marketplace was awarded USGBC LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold-CS Certification under the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED system for Core and Shell. It was the first grocer-anchored center in Virginia to be anchored by a LEED Gold Grocer and LEED Gold multi-tenant buildings. The neighborhood now includes third-party developed uses including the Primrose School, Life Storage, Everbrook Academy, East Gate Park and Ride, and several townhouse communities.
